And, in theory, any script kiddie can download it and run it at home, thus

I don't know if that is really applicable.  The script kiddies I have met
dabble and play around, but don't bother to learn how anything actually
works.  I don't lwt them anywhere near key systems.

See my previous link about "free".  I suspect that you will need to train
and invest in admin folks whether you choose AIX or Linux.
