The ASCII transparency code (Hex 03) allows you to send a string of ascii control characters to the printer.
The syntax is hex 03 followed by the hex value for the number of characters you are going to send followed
by the escape sequence in hex.For example, to send an ESC H] sequence, insert the character string X'03031B485D' into your print text.

The printer is actualy a CANNON copier that also functions as a LAN printer. Since my printer file has an overlay attached, and the device type is *AFPDS, if I embed an escape sequence in hex in the data stream, I think that the spool processing will convert it and pass it as data. If this is not correct, how does it know to translate the data to ASCII for the printer? Thanks, Jeff Young----- Original Message ----From: Richard Casey <casey_r@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, September 26, 2006 3:56:40 PM Subject: RE: Laser Printer commands in APFDS print file Jeff, What kind of printer are you using? You can send an escape sequence to the printer to activate any printer-specific features. Just assemble the necessary characters (use hex to get the escape character in there) into a string and write that string to the printer. I have a print file that uses an overlay on the System i to print forms. I would like to be able to print multiple copies and have them collated by the printer when they are printed. Normal System i printing support does not allow this, but the printer does support the function. The customer is running V5R1M0. Thanks, Jeff Young -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
