This is fun stuff! You should make sure the BP is engaged, and use their technical expertise. If they don't have much expertise beyond the configurator, you might consider another BP. On 10/4/06, albartell <albartell@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Now I am getting closer to a purchase/lease and have some questions about what I will need once the box gets to the office. Note that this is the first System i5 we have hosted in our office so that is why the elementary questions. 1. Do I use 110 or 220 power? From what I understood in a side conversation I heard the System i5 can do either. Benefits to either?
I don't recall if the system can do both, but tt really doesn't matter. 220 will end up costing a bit less in electrical power. I would have an electrician pull a dedicated circuit (meaning a dedicated breaker) for the system i. If you choose 110 have a "twist-lock" receptacles installed, so the cord can't get pulled easily from the outlet. Your BP should be able to give you (or the electrician) the electrical specs for the specific model you are purchasing. 2. Should I get a power conditioning unit? I would, particularly if you are getting a rack-mounted system. 3. I know I need a UPS. Any recommendations or will something like the

APC and PowerWare make good units. Your BP should be able to provide the power consumption specs. Consider before you purchase how long you need the system to be up when utility power fails, and get suitable battery capacity. 4. Any other setup or physical environment things I need to be made aware
of?
You should consider physical security, you should consider if there are any heat/cooling issues in the proposed location, and you should consider that the system isn't silent. You might Note that ISV's get software "at no addtl charge" so in the end my lease
price is on the $12,904 number which should put me at $129.04 per month (not too shabby!).
You might consider bundling the hardware and software maintenance for the entire lease term into the initial purchase. The you won't have to worry about renewals or budget for additional expenses, and you might get a price break on them.
