In my case I wish to get the latest dated file from a list of files on a remote server based on the file name which is also the date of the data inside. My code could be modified to get each file in turn and then do an INSERT or UPDATE or whatever you like to the one file you're trying to build. Let me know if interested.
This just made me realize that when the OP said 'file', he might have meant physical file. I assumed stream files based on the context. If that is the case, all of the stuff I was saying about the QSH cat command is not at all useful.
