Jon, you make good points.  But, I think the requirement to run on PASE

will hold back PHP on System i.

I agree that a fully native implementation is preferable - but a lot depends
on how easy it is to install etc.  If it ends up being as seamless as Zend
and IBM intend, then most folks won't even know it is running in PASE.

Also if PASE is an inhibitor they wouldn't have done anything anyway.
Apache config is enough of an oddity already and you can't do any web stuff
without it.  Unless you buy a third party tool of course.
