Exactly.  Search for QRCVDTAQ.  It can wait on a data queue indefinitely. 
I don't have a link handy as to what the format of the data queue will be 
as propagated by the spooler.

I've used data queues before.  I had a backup that saved objects in a 
library.  There were just a few objects but extremely large objects.  I 
filled the data queue with the names of these objects by descending size. 
Then two separate save programs read the data queue, and saved the 
objects.  Two programs because each program saved to a different tape 
drive.  When one was done with it's object it could read the data queue 
for the next while the other one was still busy.
