Alan, because you tried so hard, I took the example from one of the links you provided - Thanks! Elvis, Thanks for the code. I did not know you could access the RRN in SQL - Learn something every day! Vern - Your's was the most original thinking. Delete with out using the delete command. I had considered creating a 2nd file and copying it back over the original with SQL and/or Qry Manger, but had not thought of replacing the file directly. I am a little surprised that it would let you do this, as the file should be locked by QMQRY itself. I did not test but I'll take your word. Thanks to all who gave me good ideas! Jim
