Jim, FTP in binary mode should not alter any of the file contents (at least on the i5/OS side). Bruce Vining "Jim Franz" <franz400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx 12/07/2006 12:17 PM Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To <MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Subject why ftp packed ascii to ifs doesnt work I'm trying to understand why a ftp put (with bin) from Win Server to iSeries ifs alters the file data if packed data exists in the file. I thought "bin" would move the file as is. There should be no ascii to ebcdic in going to the ifs. Dealing with about a hundred different files and many packed fields. I see (thru google) this same problem exists in the unix and mainframe world. (Was probably sleeping thru this part of Computing 101..) Jim
