Here we have a weekly IPL also, included in the weekend backup program.

I think it's there in case PTF's have been applied during the week.

We're no 24/7 shop so there's no harm in that extra 15 minutes downtime 
(all subsystems are shut down for the backup anyway).

Here they IPL every week but I think that is not necessary, I have given 
them my opinion but they don't seem to want to change, conversely the last 
place I was at hadn't IPL'd for nearly 2 years which is not right either.
