The only advantage the QMQRY trick has over imbedded RPG is that with the
QMQRY trick you can do a simple
select this, that, from MyFile
and it will output that data.
Passing that statement into imbedded rpg will not execute because it does
not support a direct SELECT. Instead it makes you want to do a SELECT
INTO or a cursor followed by a FETCH INTO. However, using both tools has
some validity. I know someone figure out the bug in the RUNSQL published
by a magazine years ago but I never got it. Basically sometimes,
depending on spacing or something, your statement may get jumbled up at
the 55 character boundary. For example
insert 'A', 'B' into MyFile
may become
insert 'A', 'B' intoMyFile
and without that space between into and MyFile it will fail. So, use your
RPG method for other than simple selects and reserve your QMQRY trick for
simple selects.
