Rob - Yep.It sucks, but for all practical purposes, IBM is now in the "Services" business, NOT the hardware business.

Apparently there is yet another support contract that IBM may wave at you. We had a support issue last night on a Linux lpar. After providing a minimal level of support they wanted to cut us off because we did not have a "Linux for iSeries Support" contract. And, of course, no one could sell us the contract after hours despite our fervent urge to throw money at them. We have to wait for "Smiling Bob" to call us during regular business hours. I hope it's better than the ridiculous $10,000/year contract they wanted to us to sign just to get support for a fiber attached tape drive. Apparently that makes it a "SAN" device and SAN is one of those keywords that imply you have infinite pockets. Like the HUGE difference between a standalone twinax booster or one that was rack mounted. "Rack" being another one of the keywords.
