Poor Man's backup to an HMC

We have an HMC that we use to manage our i5/550 system.

We are contemplating acquiring an additional i5/550 system and plan on managing 
it with the same HMC.

As part of this change we would be configuring multiple LPAR's on both of the 
systems. Currently our i5/550 is a single LPAR system.

My question is ... If we were to decide NOT to purchase an additional HMC to 
provide redundancy, could we purchase a "Thin Console" that could be used to 
provide a console for our systems in the event that our HMC failed for some 
reason?

Can a "Thin Console" be used with a system configured with multiple LPAR's? 

Will a Thin Console work with an i5/520 too?
