If you have enough space then I'd definitely run from image catalogs. 
Nothing like getting 12 CD's into the process to find out the 13th one is 
bad.  Been there - done that.  Or, when you have a coworker, who is great 
at their job but just may not be an "A" player when it comes to OS stuff, 
be a disk monkey when you take a break and skip a disk because they 
shuffled them in and out of the drive faster than the OS recognizes that a 
new one has been loaded.
And, you can even do this part from home if you have remote access.  (I 
now have deep appreciation for the HMC.)
