Maybe, but I rather like unions. Anyone out there that hasn't made a bone-head mistake, raise your hand. I've made more than my share (all private sector) and never been fired. Had my butt chewed out a few times, though. But usually everyone knew that it wasn't malicious, which would have been a different issue.

Tennessee has a "Right to Work" law which, by its name, seems to guarantee people a, well, right to work. In reality it gives employers the right to fire your ass for anything, or nothing. No grievance process; no due process; zilch. Part of any disaster recovery plan is to test the backup. The plan is a management issue, not a technical one. Did they have a D/R plan? Did they test it? My hypothesis is that there's no witch hunt because it leads (straight line) to the top.

No. That is the difference between working for a public entity, probably protected by a public employee union and civil service laws, and a private company.

Oh, and here's my favorite part:

Former Revenue Commissioner Bill Corbus said no one got into trouble for
the
     incident.

"Everybody felt very bad about it and we all learned a lesson. There was no
     witch hunt," Corbus said.

I guess that's the difference between working for a company and working for the
people.

Hard to believe there was only one backup tape.

It is clearly a case of bad policy and bad implementation. I wonder if the good
citizens of Alaska know about this? And, why is it only getting publicity now
when
it happened in July?
