How much was the noticed speed difference?

It may have been our network but we didn't notice that much of a difference. 
Or more correctly, the difference didn't seem to matter given the need to 
get the processes back working given the permissions barrier.

When we used the NFS mounted way we would have a real annoying problem when 
the target PC was either down or needed rebooting. We learned to check it 
before any large data moves, but if it was down, the AS400 programs would 
run with no error. The data would not go to the PC but would go to a default 
IFS folder on the AS400 and the symptom would be DADS threshold alarm.
