I'm guessing that this means you are restricted to the command line (ie.
no GUI)? I'd suggest learning vim (VI iMproved), as either vim or vi are
available on almost any Unix/Linux/BSD machine. However, I'm not sure it
meets your criterion of simplicity ... depends on your point of view, I
guess :) Alternatively, I've heard that nano and pico are easier to get
going with. One way to get a (partial?) list of editors are on your
system is to type 'apropos editor'. This searches the soft-copy manuals
(accessed with the man) command for anything with 'editor' in the
description.
