A few years ago, we heard of the worker who was noticed responding to a standard "no authority to object" kind of error message and continuing on as if nothing was wrong.

When asked about it, the response was that it happened all the time. She would simply continue as best she could. When asked why she never complained or told anyone about the problem so it could be fixed, the totally calm and restrained response was simply "Because it said I didn't have authority to object."

Ever since, I've tried to be careful in how I word error messages.
