Pat,
I didn't completely answer your question earlier. On twinax attachments,
the IPDS device is a separate address from the SCS device description.
Since the IPDS device can handle the SCS printing, some people don't use
both. I've used both to ensure that no changes were made to old reports as
we moved to new capabilities.

Re: WSCST type function on IPDS printer type

This is a feature of the IPDS card. You can use the same printer for SCS
reports and for IPDS reports. The SCS device works as before, the IPDS
device can handle both IPDS and traditional SCS reports. On the laser
printers I've used this on, the SCS reports and IPDS reports are rotated
180 degrees from each other. This seems to work on both Twinax attached
printers an IP attached printers.

I don't recall ever hearing of a device having more than
one description. Exactly how and why would you want to
do such ?

I'm curious as to how a device can be entered twice
having the same address.

We have an IPDS printer (IBM 6400) with 2 device descriptions. Both are
active (along with writers) at the same time with no problems. I've also

used laser printers (IBM, HP & Lexmark) with IPDS cards with multiple
device descriptions. Both device descriptions can be active at the same
time without problems. Just send your output to the correct outq.
