sync in the first place, and should you actually be asking about a
trigger on the detail table that keeps the header table in sync
automatically? Just something to think about.

Yeah, I thought about this, too. In fact, I think about this in general
when people are using SQL statements. Are they doing one-time fixes to
files? Or are they writing a procedure that should be handled either by a
trigger as you suggest or by simple good database integrity that doesn't
allow unauthorized writes to the file.
