No, you cannot order a machine from IBM like that. IBM will not sell a
machine with an unsupported version of i5/os on it. Not only that, but
they stop "marketing" a version of OS before they drop support.
V5R1 has reached both end of market and end of support.
V5R3 will reach end of market early January of 2008.

Another concern is that I don't think IBM is offering for sale any box
that is still capable of running V5R1. I don't think they are even
offering for sale any box that is capable of running V5R3 - I think you
have to be at a minimum of V5R3M5. Unless you are a real LIC tweeb then
that "should" be a non issue for you.

So, if you just have to have V5R3, you'd better order before January 2008.
