Perform a search on the following tokens and click Go:
field character data type unicode
With that, it should be clear that there is unicode support; at least in some form since v5r2m0.

Note: If the job CCSID is not set to a language CCSID [best to have the value set in the *USRPRF as a preference by user, by requesting CHGPRF CCSID(desirable_EBCDIC_ccsid_value_other_than_*hex_or_65535)], then UNICODE will not be /understood/ because both *HEX and 65535 [are equivalent] CCSID specifications indicate that the data should *not* be translated.
