is the reason domino 8 is not supported on i5 because it requires db2 9?

"... What platforms will IBM support in Domino 8.0? ..."
"... Domino 8.0 will support DB2 Universal Database on Domino servers
running on Microsoft Windows 2003, IBM AIX and Linux on x86 hardware
(Novell SuSE 10 and Red Hat 5). You will need to use DB2 9 for Linux
UNIX and Windows. ..."

"...IBM says DB2 version 9 is one of the biggest upgrades to its
database line in the past decade. And there is a lot of evidence to
back that statement. It starts with a huge upgrade to XML support and
direct XML Querying and runs to enhancing greatly accessibility and
development features. In effect, IBM is saying that ESB/SOA and
associated Web Services are so important that they are going to
implement the ability to store and retrieve XML in its native format
including important XML/Secure data encryptions and authentications

---------------------------
my guess on why db2 9 is not supported on i5 is because the xml
features need a lot of CPW, and to provide that, IBM would have to
sell the hardware at p5 prices - allowing its locked in customers a
way out of costly upgrades. As TP Morgan says, it all comes down to
short term profit for the i5 mgmt team.
