My boss is really into personal high end electronics. Goes to the show in
Las Vegas, etc. He got struck by a serious lightning strike that took out
washers, dryers, etc. However all of his high end electronics were
plugged into good protection. In that realm he only lost one DVD player
that was not plugged into protection. He also lost some satellite
equipment that took it through the phone line. (Why NOT to use non
cordless phones during a lightning storm.) I asked him why he didn't have
the phone lines for the satellites plugged into protection, since many
surge suppressors have phone protection available. Basically, he just
didn't, and, they can sometimes cause too much interference for modems.
