Goods reasons I agree but I also agree with a previous post. Use
Embedded SQL. All the advantages with none of the hassles.

I for one look forward to the day when we no longer have file I/O being
used at all, just SQL but the AS/400 will probably be long gone before
that happens unfortunately.

Drives me nuts looking through people programs around here writing all
this crazy complicated file i/o when the whole job can be done in a
single SQL or a couple but hell no, we ain't using any of that new
fangled stuff. Worked in 1985, why do I need to change?
