I can't help but tout Run SQL Scripts again.
For folks that like green screen and also like Squirrel or Microsoft Query
interfaces, wouldn't you like to execute CL commands in those interfaces,
just as in green screen?
With Run SQL Scripts you just type CL: and hit F4 to prompt, if you don't
know all of command syntax off the top of your head. You can add overrides,
whatever your heart desires.
You terminate commands and SQL statements with semicolons and hit Ctrl-R to
execute it all in one swoop - voila, new scripting language besides CL &
Rexx :)
And easy to understand for folks that grew up on PC-only interfaces.
And you have access to Visual Explain... I know performance is irrelevant
until it's the only thing that matters (grin), but it's nice to know it's
there at least.

Subject: Re: SQL Finding & Using
There are also other ways to do this, perhaps not as easy as strsql, but
the SQL interface through an ODBC or JDBC connection can be used as
well. I used to use MS Office Query at customer's sites that didn't
have interactive SQL. I would just run the add hoc queries, create
statements, etc through the interactive option in MS Query. Overriding
file members can be a pain, but you can submit those overrides during
the session and they will be in place for the length of the session.
I use SQuirrel, which is an open source, Java based, JDBC SQL client. I
use it for accessing all the different DB's I work with. Although I
prefer STRSQL on the i (LOVE that green screen!), I use SQuirrel as well.
Might be an alternative to the *SPENDMONEY command.

Tom,
I did try and run STRSQL, I received a message to the effect SQL in
*libl not found. I have reported my findings (thanks to you and everyone
else)to the powers that be. It will be up to them on whether they want to
spend the money or not.
Thanks
