IMHO, a System i programmer working in a shop that doesn't allow WDSCi and/or ILE RPG programming
doesn't have a career, they just have a job.

To me a career implies forward movement.  Doing the same thing in the same way today that I did 15
years ago, heck might as well be flipping burgers or working on an assembly line.

Consider all the "professional" careers: doctors, lawyers, teachers, ect.  Most require continuing
education.  

I'm always shocked when I come across System i programmers who are happily coding RPG III like it's
1990.

If you're not happy, then you should be looking for something else.  If you're not, then you've
accepted that a job is good enough a career isn't necessary.  What I mean by that is that you should
be happy in your career, it is after all what you've chosen to do with your life.  Whereas a job you
simply do to put food on the table and a roof over your head.  My Dad retired from GM after 30+ years
on the line, he didn't have a career.  Simply a job.
