It would appear that you can hot swap.

This is the oldest service manuals I could find on the web sites I have...

Concurrent DASD add and repair on the Models 500, 510 and 530 make it possible to
add and/or repair internal DASD units and externally attached 9337 DASD devices on the
system while the system is fully operational. The availability improvement of mirroring and
device parity protection (RAID) is enhanced by being able to add and/or repair DASD
devices while the system continues to run. Also, using OS/400 V3R6, you may mix-or- match
different disk units with equal capacity for mirroring.

We just discovered that we have a failed hard drive on our 510. Worse: it appears to be in the load-source mirrored pair.

I have the serial numbers scribbled on the fronts of the drive modules in the hat, but not in the main body, and this is one of the four drives in the main body.

It's been a while since I had to work on drives. Does anybody remember (1) how to locate a drive in the main body of a 510, and (2) whether the main body drives in a 510 are hot-swappable?
