Makes me think that you really have to ask where a product runs. Runs
on the System i isn't safe because that could be anything. Runs on
i5/os could still be a cover up for PASE. Years ago when PASE first
came out I swear I could remember multiple people from IBM saying that
PASE was an area to allow X based vendors an area to migrate to and that
it was intended to ease the migration to then OS/400...........
While the release of cool products is up for debate there is definitely
a commitment to i5/os. Lots of cool things coming out of Rochester.
IBM has definitely heard that customers want i5/os solutions. I'm sure
there are cool new products being implemented on i5/os I just haven't
heard of many.
FYI - about a year ago I asked for a WEB based (java, j2ee, etc.) help
desk package on this list. I wasn't real happy with what I could find
on the market. www.livetime.com and you will see a J2EE product that
supports i5/os and db2 for i5/os. Hopefully we will be implemented
before the end of this year.

I also think it's disappointing that it takes some thinking to find the
last cool new product that didn't require PASE to be installed on your
i5.
I am so glad that Domino didn't settle for that crippled environment.
If
they had, there wouldn't have been nearly as many iSeries sold as a kick
butt Domino platform.
I wonder if IBM had to do it over again, if they would settle for PASE.
Probably.
