When one powers off an lpar from the HMC one specific question is are you
going to replace the cache batteries? If so, then it flushes those
batteries special.
There have been numerous documented cases of people replacing cache
batteries without following the documented procedures. These people's
photographs are often posted near the receptionists desk with a notice to
never let them in the door. Seriously. All data is lost.
I don't suppose they have any pre mucking with configuration data, like
