Do you really need the absolute value for the datum, or do you just
need the absolute value displayed in a report? If the latter, then just
define numeric editing which omits a sign indicator; e.g. for a P(10,2)
field, edit the field using:
EDTWRD(' 0 . ')
The EDTWRD feature is available via F16=Numeric Edit, while
positioned on a numeric field, from the Report Column Formatting screen.
As alluded by Rob, a SQL VIEW name can replace the file to be queried:
CREATE VIEW TheLib.TheFileVW (Fld2, Fld2, Fld3, Fld4)
AS SELECT Fld1, Fld2, ABS(Fld3) AS Fld3, Fld4)
FROM TheLib.TheFile
