You should not monitor for the UPS "Low Battery" message.  If the UPS is "On 
Battery", and the low battery message is issued, the OS performs an instant 
shutdown.   (not a pwrdwnsys *immed, more like the plug is pulled)

The better approach is to select a "max on battery" time, and code your UPS 
monitor program to perform a controlled shutdown if you are on battery that 
long.

I have yet to see an iSeries UPS interface that wasn't just a relay contact 
style plug.  This type only reports "UPS Connected" "UPS On Battery" and 
"UPS Battery Low".  Many of this type omit the UPS Connected pair.

I offer a UPS Monitor CL program kit on my website, www.atticdesignlab.com . 
It is my modest attempt to provide a functional, customizable UPS monitor 
for folks who haven't the time to research their own.

This program's immediate ancestor managed an AS/400 through a blackout, 
without any data loss whatsoever.  The system was up for 10 minutes, (my 
selected "on battery" time), and then powered down the sysyem.   The program 
includes messaging to the users about the system's power state, and warning 
them to sign off when necessary.
