That was true for V3 and earlier. IBM changed the license with V4
allowing the OS to remain with the box. Other licensed programs are not
included in this.
Before deleting everything, consider that a box without an OS will
probably be worth far less in the used market. Older system may
effectively become parts donors.
Many companies have IT policies covering media and equipment disposal.
Simply deleting your data may be considered inadequate.
Our IT infrastructure provider's SOPs requires on site destruction of
used media including drives. The problem for our account's asset manager
is he's not found such an on site service yet. There's a disconnect
somewhere. Currently, he's collecting drives.
