I stand corrected. I've been out of the operations side for some time
and the staff at my current employer must have it rolled into something
because they never mention charges for it. I remember it being part of
the maintenance.

Try to walk into BestBuy for instance and get a PC system with an
operating system other than Windows. Microsoft also released the new
version of Windows which they charge handily for. The last time I
checked, the updates to i5/OS are free.
Check again. Run your machine without software assurance (or has it been
rolled into maintenance now?), and then call to request V6R1. But make
sure you're sitting down before they tell you how much. :))
