I can load Navigator on my Mac - but I really don't want to unless I have no choice.

You don't have to create the share via the Mac to connect to it via the Mac. If you have access to ANY Windows PC, you can create the share from that PC and it will be available to the Mac.

If you truly want to do it the hard way, the ADDNSVFSHR command will do it.
