Actually, if you want to be technical... none of these APIs are really necessary. These APIs are IBM extensions to CGI. On other platforms, they use the ordinary system APIs for environment variables and reading/writing stdin and stdout. They parse the URL encoded strings manually.

The Qtmh family of APIs was just to simplify things for you. Technically, you don't need them.
