We upgraded to Power 6 this weekend. Here are the results of some of our
backups on lpars on that machine.
GDIHQ takes 93% of what it used to.
GDISYS takes 70% of what it used to.
GDWEB takes 84% of what it used to.
After some discussion internally we determined that the difference
experienced in GDISYS (and to a lesser extent, GDWEB) can be attributed to
the fact that we moved the drives for GDISYS and GDWEB out of the old
Power 5+ "CEC" and into other frames. The raid controllers in the CEC are
less than stellar. Perhaps the reason that GDWEB wasn't even better is
that it's save isn't that long in the first place and there's a lot of
overhead involved (like dropping Domino servers).
