It is interesting to note that, at the MI interface (MI instruction) layer, MI objects actually have always had 30-character names (plus two bytes for type and subtype).
It is CPF, OS/400 and i5/OS running above the MI layer that only uses 10 characters to name its objects created from one or more "primitive" MI objects.
