I know I am late to this discussion, but we also recently took our entire computer room to a dedicated line, all protected by $25k of UPS systems.

Los Angeles can black out and (as if it would really matter) my computer room is ok for about 3.5 hours.

That said, part of what the computer room UPS is powering is my i5's UPS. When everything else goes dark, my i still has time to shut down gracefully. If T is watching, that means my AS/400 will power down without data loss.

Redundancy is a good thing if you can protect yourself more than one time.
