REXX is a hidden gem.

PDM user defined functions are a hidden gem too, along with the SEU command line. Find all SQL DECLARE statements with SEU:

h c+
h /exec
f declare a x

You can even link REXX and PDM easily enough. Create a REXX program in QREXSRC called INTERPRET. The REXX code is:

/* Interpret input parameter */
interpret arg(1)
exit

Create a PDM option that starte REXX with the parameter being the REXX statement you want to execute:

STRREXPRC SRCMBR(INTERPRET) SRCFILE(BUCK/QREXSRC)
PARM('say "&L/&F(&N) &T changed &D"')

Multiple commands would be separated by semicolons.

You can do various conditional operations with the PDM macros just by changing the PARM() on STRREXPRC in the PDM command. Pretty sure this was described on one of the Midrange lists very recently.
