Thanks Walt and Martin, both of your options are much easier. Very surprised that a company that sells iSeries software would not have distributed either of these solutions to their customers.

If you are on V5R4 or V6R1 (6.1) you can install the newer V5R4M0
version of 5799PTL. V5R4M0 of 5799PTL contains Perl 5.8.7
