Hi James

STRHOSTSVR is the command you require.

From memory QSERVER has to be started (and possibly QSYSWRK and QUSRWRK) but
the subsystem thing seems to be release dependent.

I find the CWBPING command useful at the client end to determine what is
running and accessible, but that's a client access utility.

Thanks, Evan. That's a start.

Finding out what's running isn't too hard: I can do that just by doing a WRKTCPSTS *CNN.

But what about starting automatically? And finding out (without actually doing an IPL) whether it's set to start automatically?

I see that the QSTRUP program on that box has a
QSYS/STRSBS SBSD(QSERVER)
in it. What I can make out from the manuals is that this is supposed to start Host Servers, but is that right? And what about the fact that the QSERVER subsystem is started long before TCP is started?
