At one point there were a lot of PTFs flying around for a race condition
that prevented jobs from ending, and seemed to have something to do with
a large number of object locks owned by the job. I think that was on
V5R4. It's been a while.

tape activity, no "Saving library x of y". After an hour (I'm getting
more patient in my old age), I called IBM support. Walking through the
messages (nada) and the job log we found that the subsystems were not
ending. Specifically QSYSWRK with job QDIRSRV. The job log just showed
trying to end subsystems *All, RCVMSG RMV(*All) page after page. I
could not even force the job to end with a *Immed so the tech had me do
a "Microsoft" (re-IPL *Immed).

| I'll apply the PTF (SI30680) that he told me to download, but I was
wondering if anyone else had seen or heard of something like this?
