But am I (see previous message detailing what I'd experienced) actually looking at the same application that the WRKDBF fans here are looking at? Or is it some impostor? Or some outdated version?

I've occasionally had to futz around with DBU, when the customer was a DBU shop, and I've also used such things as STRQRY and DSPPFM to look at files on customer shops. I've also used Squirrel SQL when I needed to use SQL interactively on boxes (like ours) that don't have interactive SQL. While I found nothing as fast, intuitive or smooth as QV, they at least didn't crash or do funky things while I was trying to find my data.
