Update:

Yes, I did try the *GEN option the first time (before I created a receiver
with a higher number sequence), but it still wouldn't let me delete the
others.

However, as for the receiver directory, it showed a funky one (different
name format) just before sequence 0001 from October 2006. I was able to
delete that one and then 30 more in the current sequence. I didn't even
think about F15 from that screen; Knowing the current naming convention, I
was just doing a WRKOBJ *LIB/AUD*. Doh!
