They probably meant "light weight" access points. They still feature a
normal access point in the field, but loaded with a special firmware -
they're managed by a central device (that, in SMB variants also
includes it's own Switch with POE Ports). Symbol calls this a
"Wireless Switch".

Cisco also has such an offering, and i believe every other Enterprise
Wireless vendor does too.

My experiences with both the Symbol and Cisco LWAPP solutions have
been rather good - they remove a lot of the management overhead.
