If that is the interface you are connected through, and most shops will have
just the one, you vary it off, and no way to reconnect.

OK Pete I gotta ask. Why not do this from a PC connected with System i
Access? :-)

RE: Change Subnet Mask
You do not need to End TCP/IP or Vary off the Ethernet line, you just need
to Stop the Interface on CFGTCP option 1 before changing it (which is
CHGTCPIFC). Once the Interface is Inactive, you put a 2 next to the
Interface Address, and enter your new Subnet Mask. Then Start the
interface
so it goes Active. If this entire process take 10 seconds, then you are a
very slow typer :)
Just remember to do this from the Console, and not from a Client Access
session which is connected via TCP/IP on the interface you are shutting
down.

Subject: Change Subnet Mask
All,
Our Net Admin just informed me that they are changing the subnet
mask. From what I found, I know I have to end TCPIP, Vary off the line
description for the Ethernet card, use the cmd cfgtcp option 1 and
change the subnet mask value. My question is, are there any other
gotchas that will prevent our system from communicating with the
network? By the way - running a 270 w v5r4.
Any information or point to any documentation will greatly be
appreciated
Thank you
