DDS for a variable length field that is 100 characters for average use but could go up to 500

WLSTNOTE     500          VARLEN(100)
                          TEXT('Status Note')
                          COLHDG('Status Note')

32K is the maximum field size

What is the MAX length of a variable field ??  I'm not sure how the DDS
looks for a variable length field??  Someone have an example?

Can DFU be used to enter the data into the variable length field?
Depends of the max length of the field
What methods permit entry of data into the var. length field?
Any programming language

Can Qry/400 be used to select data (using LIKE) from ANYWHERE in the
var. length field?
Yes
