I am not disagreeing with you Rob, frankly until I came here I had never
   used multiple members before....and still think they suck.....that said,
   it is a huge thing around here....I personally would love to see them go
   away completely.....but unfortunately we have too many old files that are
   accessed by far too many programs to do that right now.
   going forward though, I see no reason to keep using them.

   Doug, you can use multi member files that were created with DDL.  However,
   - You have to do a CHGPF to alter it to allow multimembers.
   - You lose all constraints, etc
   - For the rest of eternity you have to either use ALIAS or OVRDBF
   What is so darned good about multi members that can't be solved by simply
   adding another column that is indicative of what you used the member name
   for?
