Kirk,

Does it make a difference if you stopping/starting RAID for an IOP vs.
a set of disks?

The Backup and Recovery manual seems to imply that RAID is
started/stopped for everything on a given IOP.

While the infocenter seems to imply that you can start/stop RAID for a
given set of disks.

Thanks!
Charles

All,

We initially had a 3-disk RAID 5 set in our system pool. We've since
added another disk to the RAID set, however parity information is
still only being placed on two disks.

If we stop device parity protection, and then restart it, the system
will spread the parity out across all 4 disks correct?

Now, can we do the stop and start while the system is up? iSeries
Navigator's online help says "If you want to stop device parity
protection for an independent disk pool that is unavailable, you can
do so when your system is fully restarted. For all other disk pools,
you will need to restart your system to DST before stopping device
parity protection. See Performing actions in DST for information on
how to access your server at DST using iSeries Navigator."

But the infocenter makes no mention of this requirement.

We're on v5r4 LPAR on an 820.

Thanks!

You will need to stop raid from DST with the system down. When you start
it again it will see '4' drives and build parity across all '4' drives.
Make sure you know your SST/DST ID and Password before you get to DST.
