I believe you have to configure this as a remote outqueue, and not a
device.

I've got the IBM printer definition page open in front of me, and have
created a device description for one of these (*LAN), but it's attached
to a HP Jet Direct box.
Does anybody have one of these configured, and can you let me know what
device type parms to use? I can get to the point of starting the writer,
but then it dies.
